IELTS 7 band essay sample answer

Inter country travel has exploded in the past few years and ever increasing number of people are travelling internationally and this trend has evoked mixed reaction wherein certain people believe that visitors should adhere to local customs when staying in a foreign country while others opine that the host country should be expected to show some openness and tolerance towards visitors’ behavior being different from local habits. In my view, both views have some merit and should be explored further.

It is human tendency to jaunt other cultures and then the question to espouse one’s culture arises, I think each and every person has the right as a human to follow what his or her rational urges but this right itself holds some rational boundaries. Culture has the same characteristics as of water, if water is flowing it remains clean and turbidity does not victimize it. Identical tenets are true in the case of culture because if it is not lively and happening, it will vanish with passage of time.

Nowadays, globalization and tourism have heavily impacted local customs and traditions so differences between many countries have been evened out. Therefore, it could be vital for the survival of local customs that visitors respect them in addition, travelers are more likely to gain insight into a host country and its culture by following local customs.

On the other hand, customs that are destructive, regressive and downgrading in nature must be stopped from persisting. In this manner, culture will be prosperous and eternal. It is particularly true in the case of India where culture is everlasting and since the ancient period to this day, millions of visitors who have visited India, have followed local customs and also lent their customs, that is why India has such a wonderful diversified and unique culture.

In summary, I think visitors should make efforts to adopt their behaviours in a way that does not conflict with local customs to make their stay more enjoyable on the other hand locals should also have some flexibility in their approach towards their customs considering lack of knowledge of visitors.
