Understanding IELTS Band Score Calculation
The IELTS overall band score is calculated by averaging your four individual scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) and then rounding to the nearest 0.5 band.
Official IELTS Rounding Rules:
- If the average ends in .25, it rounds down to .0
- If the average ends in .75, it rounds up to the next .0
- Any decimal between .25 and .75 rounds to .5
Example:
Listening: 7.5 | Reading: 6.5 | Writing: 6.0 | Speaking: 7.0
Average: (7.5 + 6.5 + 6.0 + 7.0) ÷ 4 = 6.75
Overall Band Score: 7.0 (rounds up)
