Band 9 Model Answer

Here are a band 8-9 model answer to write a letter to the airline.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing with regard to a flight that I missed due to a mistake by one of your employees.

Two weeks ago, I was due to catch a flight to Rome, where I intended to spend four days on holiday. Unfortunately, the attendant at the check-in desk gave me a boarding card for a different flight, and I did not notice the mistake until I arrived at the departure gate and it was too late.

As a result of the error, I was not allowed to board the flight to Rome, and this caused me great inconvenience. I had to book a new flight two days after, which meant that I missed two days of my holiday and I had to spend an extra $350.

As the mistake was caused by your company, I hope that you will compensate me for the cost of the additional flight, as well as for my taxi fares to and from the airport.

I look forward to receiving your response.

Yours faithfully,

Paul Jones

Another Band 9 Model Answer to write a letter to the airline

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I missed my international flight to London on 17th January for a reason which was beyond my control and which actually transpired due to a problem at the airport.

My flight was scheduled at 12:30 pm and I had arrived at the airport well in advance. Suddenly, I felt that I needed to eat something at the airport, and so I went to one of the upscale restaurants at the airport where some security personnel of the airport asked everyone to stay there until further notice. I guess it was a security issue,  which eventually forced me to abandon my flight. Anyway, missing the fight caused me to miss an important seminar on launching a new product.

So, since I missed the flight because of a reason, which was beyond my control and had something to do with the airport authority, I would truly appreciate it if you give me a full refund for my ticket. I am attaching the ticket with this letter for your convenience.

Yours faithfully,

Le Nhan Tong
